Consequences of Injury and Surgery

I’ve been a runner on and off most of my life.  It’s always been part of my training.  Now, in my 50s, I know MANY people who (as early as their 40s) who have undergone knee replacements and some hip replacements.  Those of us who are active are now faced with failing bodies earlier sometimes than in times past.
There is another group of people who also struggles with fitness – those older people sometimes confined to bed, not always due to an injury, but surgery, or people who have chosen another weight loss path, bariatric surgery.  Oftentimes, those people want to begin their weight loss journey, but they are just too large to exercise traditionally.
By chance, a friend of a friend facebook friended me.  I can’t even tell you now who he knows that I know in common.  He is in the fitness industry, and he and his team have invented a fitness product for people who are suffering through the very things I listed earlier.  There was a big need that wasn’t being met, and Joseph M. Salamon and his team were approached about being able to do fitness in bed.   Bingo.  A new fitness idea was born. meets the needs of older individuals, those recovering from surgery, those with injuries who cannot traditional exercise and those that are too large to traditionally exercise.
How many times have you read someone’s blog or known someone that has undergone knee replacement surgery only to lose all their training and fitness level?  Now with the help of and rehabilitation, that doesn’t have to happen.  The concept is that you are able to move and still train while being confined to bed.  I asked Joe how it integrates in terms of a patient, for example, and he explained the idea is that the patent undergoing rehabilitation will be guided by a physical therapist.
Young in terms of years, this established and reputable compan are in the process of debuting the fitness program at a national event this spring.  You are able to actually purchase the fitness product directly from  I can’t think of anything better than being able to perform rehab after surgery without losing a lot of muscle tone.  This will strengthen you and help you maintain so that you aren’t weak and starting over from zero once you have recovered, or on your weight loss journey.  I also think it would be a great way for the bariatric patient, one who has never really done traditional exercise or is limited because of size, to start to strengthen their body in preparation for their journey.

  • Easy Crustless Quiche

    This is a fantastic recipe that is easily adapted to whatever you really love in your quiche.

    7 egg whites;
    1.5 C skim milk
    (for quiche shown)
    Add 1 C chopped vidalia onion (sauteed in oil first)
    1 chopped red pepper (sauteed with onion)
    1 10 oz. box of spinach (also sauteed)

    Heat oven to 450 and bake for 15 minutes; reduce heat to 375 for an additional 30 minutes. During the last 15 mins. add approximately 2 C of sharp cheddar cheese.

    This will yield approximately 6 large pieces, amounting to around 110 calories per piece.
