No More Drama

It started with a bribe.  Not really a bribe, a promise – no, it was a bribe.  I told myself that if I was dressed and out of the house this morning by 9 AM and on my way to the gym to run, I would cash in on my free birthday drink from Starbucks.  So, yes, a bribe, I suppose.  The good news is I did it. 

After sitting around all day yesterday (and thinking several times I SHOULD  leave the house and get to the gym), I woke up this morning and knew I had to go.  My lower back has been bothering me (an old SI injury that likes to pop up every now and then), and I used the heating pad and Ibuprofen last night at bedtime.  To hell (more…)

One Step At A Time

If you’ve been reading my blog, you know this is the year for changes in my life.  As we move into the second month of the year, I’ve succeeded in some areas and other areas (more important ones) have lagged. 

This morning, I was up and ready for the gym.  My son (the one who runs cross-country and track) had said last night that he’d go to the gym this morning, so I was waiting around for him to get up.  I had my coffee and banana with almond butter.  Around 10:00 a.m. (pretty early for him), he emerged from his bedroom and I asked if he was going with me.  He said he didn’t want to.  Listen, I don’t blame the kid, he has track practice five days a week, he doesn’t really NEED to run on the weekends.  Normally, this would have fueled my excuse of “if he’s not going, neither am I.”  Not today.  I said, “okay, I’m going to get ready to go to the gym then, I need to run.”  By the time I had changed and started packing my bag, he was on board with the idea and off we went.  (more…)

The Year of Me

Last year, I decided that 2012 would be the “year of me.”  Two weeks into 2012, it hasn’t quite worked out that way. 

Almost every woman I know, whether she has children or not, puts everyone else in front of herself.  I guess as natural caretakers, we are in many ways wired this way.  We (almost all) do it.  That includes me.  Work comes before what I need; my children always come before what I need; the house comes before what I need; and even my cats come first some days!  How is a woman supposed to be able to take care herself and not feel guilty about it!

  • Easy Crustless Quiche

    This is a fantastic recipe that is easily adapted to whatever you really love in your quiche.

    7 egg whites;
    1.5 C skim milk
    (for quiche shown)
    Add 1 C chopped vidalia onion (sauteed in oil first)
    1 chopped red pepper (sauteed with onion)
    1 10 oz. box of spinach (also sauteed)

    Heat oven to 450 and bake for 15 minutes; reduce heat to 375 for an additional 30 minutes. During the last 15 mins. add approximately 2 C of sharp cheddar cheese.

    This will yield approximately 6 large pieces, amounting to around 110 calories per piece.
